Service Sponsorship

PURPOSE:

A Service Sponsor is an alcoholic in recovery who shares their service experience with an alcoholic who takes a service commitment in one of the many service entities within Alcoholics Anonymous.  A good overview of service sponsorship may be found in the pamphlet, Questions and Answers on Sponsorship (P-15), pages 25-27.  There it is suggested that “A service sponsor is usually someone who is knowledgeable in AA history and has a strong background in the service structure.”

WHAT THEY DO:

A service sponsor presents the various aspects of service to the sponsee, and assists the sponsee in making informed decisions.  Whatever level of service one performs, we keep in mind that it is the members who share the responsibility of making Alcoholics Anonymous function for the newcomer. 

HOW TO GET ONE:

If you are in need of a service sponsor or would like to be a service sponsor please contact the committee chair of the service you wish to perform.  Email addresses can be found on the service workers page, by selecting the Central Office Staff dropdown and selecting the committee chair in question.
